In this post, we'll take a look at a few verses in Ezekiel 18 that explain why eternal security is a false doctrine and that it is God's desire that no one should die in sin and be separated from Him. Also, we will see how a man's own choices are the basis for God's judgment against him.  In other words, you can choose to be righeous or to sin. No man is judged for the sins of his parent or his child.  We are all accountable for our owns sins.

20The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.
21But if the wicked will turn from all his sins that he hath committed, and keep all my statutes, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live, he shall not die.
22All his transgressions that he hath committed, they shall not be mentioned unto him: in his righteousness that he hath done he shall live.
23Have I any pleasure at all that the wicked should die? saith the Lord GOD: and not that he should return from his ways, and live?
24But when the righteous turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and doeth according to all the abominations that the wicked man doeth, shall he live? All his righteousness that he hath done shall not be mentioned: in his trespass that he hath trespassed, and in his sin that he hath sinned, in them shall he die.
25Yet ye say, The way of the LORD is not equal. Hear now, O house of Israel; Is not my way equal? are not your ways unequal?
26When a righteous man turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and dieth in them; for his iniquity that he hath done shall he die.
27Again, when the wicked man turneth away from his wickedness that he hath committed, and doeth that which is lawful and right, he shall save his soul alive.
28Because he considereth, and turneth away from all his transgressions that he hath committed, he shall surely live, he shall not die.
29Yet saith the house of Israel, The way of the LORD is not equal. O house of Israel, are not my ways equal? are not your ways unequal?
30Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, every one according to his ways, saith the Lord GOD. Repent, and turn yourselves from all your transgressions; so iniquity shall not be your ruin.
31Cast away from you all your transgressions, whereby ye have transgressed; and make you a new heart and a new spirit: for why will ye die, O house of Israel?
32For I have no pleasure in the death of him that dieth, saith the Lord GOD: wherefore turn yourselves, and live ye.
Ezekiel 18:20-32

Eternal Security is a false Doctrine.

The bible is clear that a person has the choice to walk in righteousness or to commit sin.  In Ezekiel 18, it explains how we are all judged by God according to our own choices to sin or walk in righteousness. Therefore, no one will be judged based on the actions of their children or their parents. We all are accountable to God for our own actions. (Ezekiel 18:20-22)

The Bible is also clear that it is possible for a righteous man to turn from God and to commit sin. In Ezekiel 18:26-28, the scripture states that a righteous man that turns from his righteousness and commits sin and dies in his sins will then have to face the second death: spirtual death, which also means eternal separation from the loving God.  There is no eternal security for the righteous man that chooses to sin. If he dies while living in sin, then his sins will eternally separate him from God.  In addition, Revelation 3:4-5 tells us that only the ones that overcome will not have their names blotted out of the book of life by Jesus.  Also, the wicked man that turns from his wickedness to serve the Lord shall save his soul alive.  Therefore, one can repent and turn from your sins and serve the Lord.

Another point about this scripture is that this man is described as a righteous man that turns away from his righteousness, which shows that salvation is a choice, just like sin is a choice.

Ezekiel 18:26-28

God's desire is that no one should die spirtually and be separate from Him

It is not God's desire that anyone should die in their sins and be eternally separated from Him. It is also not his choosing for people to die in their sins and be eternally separated from Him. He is a just God. In Ezekiel 18, the scripture points out that God is just, when it states that his ways are equal and gives the example of the fact that he judges men according to their own actions and not the actions of others and because he also judges men based on their current relationship with Him and not on their passed sins, if they are actively serving Him or on past righteousness, if they have turned from Him and are now walking in sin.

God tells Israel to repent and from their sins so that they will not have to die. He also says in verse 32 that He has no pleasure in the death of those that die spirtually. Therefore, He urges Israel to turn from their sins and live. (Ezekiel 18:30-32, 1 John 2:3-5)
